APEX Turbulence
APEX Turbulence enables high definition smoke and fog interaction, dust devils, sand and snow storms  as well as supernatural effects in games to provide a much more dynamic and interactive game experience. It can be used to augment any existing particle techniques with realistic response to moving solid objects and turbulent fluid motion. The simulation quality can be easily scaled up  or down based on target platform performance.  The authoring tool allows the artist to change parameters such as fluid viscosity, turbulence and particle mass to create inspiring particle effects based on fluid dynamics.

Some application scenarios could include:

  • Residual dust from destruction
  • Smoke Grenades and other Weapon effects
  • Exhaust smoke from care or spinning/braking tires
  • Supernatural effects – e.g. ghost like
  • Snow storms or snow trails
  • Tornado wind effects

Attendees at GDC are invited to see a live demonstration of NVIDIA APEX at the NVIDIA booth (#656 in the West Hall), and to attend the APEX: The Quickest Path to High Definition Dynamics Content presentation being held in room 3016 in the West Hall from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2009. A shorter preview of APEX Turbulence will also be given at the NVIDIA APEX: From Mirror’s Edge to Pervasive Cinematic Destruction to Real-Time Fluid Simulation presentation on Wednesday, March 25th, from noon to 1pm, in Room 3005.
